History of Elwood Field

Early Club Beginnings

The club began in the mid 90’s as a few RC pilots were look for a place to fly. They happened upon the property of Frank O’Neill. They thought it would be a great place to fly. After a while, Frank saw how much fun they were having, joined up and began flying as well. Fast forward a few years and the club has grown to a current roster of 40 members, that can be found at the flying field on Saturdays and most Sundays.

Originally, the club hosted two fly-in events. One in the Spring and one, in the Fall. For the 2020 season and beyond, The club has suspended the Spring Fun Fly in favor of hosting a Summer Sizzle. Starting in 2019, which was by far the largest show in the club’s history, RC pilots from all over as well as the famous Texas Warbird Thunder, descended on Livingston to put on a fantastic show for everyone. The club continues to support local charities at both events. Everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, to donate to the food panty’s in Polk County for the Summer Sizzle and an unwrapped toy to be donated to the Polk County Empty Stockings Program at the Fall Fun Fly..

Every year, you can find the club at the Hometown Christmas event in December with a booth, raffling off a very nice rifle and letting anyone fly on the RC flight simulator as well as spark someone’s interest in joining the best hobby in the world.

Whether you build, fly or just want to watch, you are always welcomed at Elwood Field!
